Thump, Thump: Month Long Love Sale on Selected Bikes & Accessories January 27 2017

bicycle sale

Because we want you to feel the love (of cycling), we'll be having a sale on select bicycles and accessories all through the month of February. Time to say adieu to our fleet of rental bikes (to make room for new ones.) These sturdy workhorses from Brooklyn Bicycle Co. have served us well. It's a great chance to get a Dutch style city bike for very little money. Prices start at $250. We also have a handful of new bikes greatly marked down like a Brooklyn Bicycle Co. Willow 7 speed step-through frame originally $750 reduced to $550. We have one Simcoe Basic Roadster 3 speed step-over frame originally $700 now $500. Canadian company Simcoe makes stylish, classic bikes with beautiful details and durable paint finishes. For a tall kid or small adult we have a Torker U-3 in a 44cm frame. It's a 3 speed internal geared bike with a racier geometry and drop bars. Originally $500 reduced to $325. And we've knocked down the price of our last SE Wildman 20" bmx bike. Yours for $284.26 including tax for this popular kid's bike. As for accessories, all of our Racktime bags and panniers are 30% off. German company Racktime makes practical gear for commuters like the Side One Urban and Work It Wide that look good on the bike right into the office. A selection of Basil bags and panniers are also 30% off. Dutch company Basil is a shop favorite because of their bright and fun colors and patterns on items like their Basonyl Double Bag or Jada Mirte Shopper. Quantities are limited and prices quoted do not include sales tax unless otherwise noted. Stop in and test ride a bike Tuesdays through Saturdays.

We've just added some more bikes to our February sale! All Brompton folding bikes are reduced 10% off MSRP and all Pashley bicycles are reduced 15% off MSRP. The sale is good only on bicycles currently in stock.

Big red two person tricycle on it's side at Firth & Wilson Transport Cycles

Everyone in Fishtown is starting to get pumped for this year's Kinetic Sculpture Derby and Arts Festival on Saturday May 21st. News Flash: Kids Love Cargo Bikes! May 08 2014

Kid tested, kid approved cargo bikes were out and about at Kidstock, a fun free event organized by Fishtown play group By My Side, this past Sunday at Liberty Lands.

We showed up on what started out a chilly grey day with our trusty trio of family bikes: Gazelle Cabby, Babboe City, and Xtracycle Edgerunner. When the spring sunshine finally made an appearance test rides really started to take off. David and Simon gave dozens of rides to dozens of children and even a few parents had a go. We can't tell you how happy we are to talk to parents about these amazing bikes and hear their little ones insist they buy one. If anyone missed the event or didn't get a chance to ride a bike that day we are open Monday through Saturday for test rides.

Ready To Roll April 29 2014

David proudly standing behind a fleet of five cargo bikes destined to Wholefoods stores in the area. The bikes are a mash-up of Torker Graduate Mixties, 20 inch front wheels, and fork/cargo racks from Cyclefab based in Seattle, Washington. The grocery delivery crew are gonna love riding these smooth handlers.

GearingUp Bagel Ride Recap April 08 2014

If you missed GearingUp's Bagel Ride on Sunday you'll have to wait until next year. They only hold it once a year. It's a chance to enlighten people of their mission and gain some volunteer support. The sunny crisp morning made for ideal riding conditions for over eighty participants, more than double the attendees on any previous rides according to Kristin Gavin of GearingUp. The casual ride took off at Fairmount Bicycles, up to Chamonix Mansion in Fairmount Park,  then back through the city finishing at our shop where a pile of bagels, some fresh baked goods, and a tower of coffee awaited hungry riders. In addition to the GearingUp volunteers, the folks at Wash Cycle Laundry,  the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, and Fairmount Bicycles deserve a big hand for all their hard work to make the morning a success. This event kicked off the beginning of many we'll be involved with this season.

Ride Your Bike, Then Eat a Bagel! April 01 2014

Gearing Up is hosting a Bike & Bagel ride this Sunday, April 6th. The ride departs at Fairmount Bicycles at 9AM and ends at our shop where there will be bagels and coffee awaiting hungry riders. The pace is casual. Bring your bike (Fairmount Bicycles has a few loaners but call ahead) and your helmet (mandatory.) The weather looks spring-like so hope to see you out there. More information here and here.

Philadelphia is Catching Cargo Fever March 18 2014

Spring fever isn't the only fever going around. Cargo fever is spreading as well. Our new stock of Xtracycle Edgerunners arrived this morning after selling out last week. We already have one built and ready to go. And that ain't all. We have more cargo bikes: Xtracycle Cargo Joe, Gazelle Cabby, Babboe City, Haley Trikes, and Bullitt. Come in for some test rides.

Got Some Bikes To Build February 21 2014

Because we have some custom bikes to build the shop will be closed for a few days next week: Wednesday, February 26th through Friday, February 28th. We will be open on Tuesday the 25th from 10am 'til 6pm and Saturday, March 1st, 10am 'til 5pm.

Rent Me February 04 2014

Last week the box for our Bullitt returned with this fabulous, freshly painted sign by the guys at ICY Signs in Philadelphia. We have a few cargo and city bikes available for rent, by the hour or by the day. Just check under our rental page for pricing or call the shop for more details.

Let Your Bike Carry The Load January 17 2014

While a cargo bike is a great way to lug things around town we do have smaller options that work with just about any bicycle to tote your stuff. Tons of panniers, baskets and bags (and the racks to mount them on) to get the weight off your back and let your bike do the work. Germany's Racktime makes stylish bags that clip into their own front or rear racks for a completely integrated, strong, and secure carrying system. For those who want to make a bold statement, Basil from the Netherlands offers water resistant panniers in bright and colorful florals or simpler color blocks for graphic pop. Here in the USA, Green Guru is recycling old bicycle inner tubes and advertising banners for their panniers. As for front baskets, you'll find the trust worthy Wald basket (still made in America) does the job, Basil makes colorful lift off baskets (we have one in yellow) or for larger gear we've got a market rack from Civia. And that's not all. Come by the shop to see the rest of our collection or call for pricing.

Are You Family Bike Curious? January 07 2014

Come to an open house, family bike social at the shop on Saturday, January 18th from 11am to 2pm co-sponsored by us and Kidical Mass Philadelphia. Speak with other Philly family biking parents while enjoying snacks and beverages. Test ride city and cargo bikes and shop for your dream bike or seat! Easily accessible via SEPTA and plenty of on-street parking. KIDS WELCOME!! Please RSVP at

Happy New Year! December 31 2013

2014 is almost upon us and we're looking forward to a great new year. We'd like to thank all of our friends and customers who supported us throughout our first seven months of business. Cheers! (Now stop that strutting and get on your bikes!)

One Week Left! December 17 2013

We typically don't like to overstate the obvious here at Firth & Wilson but would just like to point out that you only have a week left to complete your holiday shopping. We're really not trying to scare you. Rather, we'd like to take the fear out of the whole experience. We've oodles of cycling items, literally something for everyone, that will put huge smiles on your giftees' faces. In fact, you will most likely become the most popular gifter in the world! Like I said, we don't like to overstate the obvious.

Just in, Philli Tees! December 10 2013

The 2013 Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships are over. If you went, you got to experience all the fun and mayhem. A Bilenky Junkyard Cross your grandkids will be talking about and an epic snow raging race at Belmont Plateau were the major highlights. And if you didn't get one of these fantastic Landlords Cycling designed and printed courtesy of Sterling Couriers tees this weekend now's your chance. We got a few at the shop. $20.

Jingle, Jingle December 05 2013

We have some pretty big bells here at Firth & Wilson. Ring one of these and even a bus will get out of your way. Well, perhaps not a bus but they are loud. If that's too much for you to handle we do have some smaller options that will get you noticed. Prices start at $7 (bells pictured, $16.)
