Bicycles and Business Work Well Together March 18 2016
Indego isn't the only bike share in town. Some hotels and condominiums, like Dranoff Lofts, provide bikes for their residents. We just gave their fleet a tune up and can do the same for your fleet. Cycling as a mode of transportation is a trend that keeps growing and is here to stay. Businesses that incorporate and promote the use of bicycles are another lasting trend. It makes sense, particularly in a city like Philadelphia. With very little hill climbing it's so easy to get around town by bike and it's often the most efficient means. If you're interested in incorporating bicycles into your business we can help you choose the right one (or more,) whether it's a half dozen three speed city bikes or a cargo bike or two. We can outfit the bikes with baskets, racks, bells, locks, and lights too.
New Xtracycle Edgerunners May 29 2015
The new Edgerunners have arrived! We have the 24D model in two sizes, 16.5 inch and 18 inch. $1999 plus tax gets you the bike as well as the new & improved waterproof cargo bags and the kickback center stand. Add-ons like the hooptie rails, u-tube foot rests, and a Yepp Maxi Easyfit (or two) will make this your new favorite family hauling machine.
Better Mobility in Philadelphia March 04 2015
Philadelphia Magazine posted an article about Philly being one of the most car-free cities in the US. That sounds like good news; however, the most likely reason is due to our high poverty rate and that's bad news. While many of us choose not to drive, it's not a choice for others. Many Philadelphians can't afford a car and must rely on a bicycle or public transportation to get around. If that's the case than it's even more important to make sure citizens can be mobile by improving our public walkways, transit, and bicycle infrastructure. Better Mobility, a Philadelphia Mayoral Forum, will ask the candidates where they stand on these issues. Join the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and other groups on March 19 from 6pm - 8pm at the Friends Center, 1501 Cherry Street, to find out.

Don't have a basket (or rack or pannier bags?) We've tons of options from Ortlieb, Racktime, Wald, and Basil (to name a few.) Better yet, we have cargo bikes from Pashley, Soma, Xtracycle, Yuba, and Gazelle, to get even more stuff home. Don't know what to get? We have gift cards too!

Cargo Bikes for Everyone! September 26 2014
With the pleasant Autumn cycling weather upon us, now is a good time to look into getting that cargo bike you've always dreamed about. We carry cargo bikes big, suitable for transporting your kids to school, and small, to haul your groceries and beer home after work. Our long rear loading bikes, we stock the Xtracycle Edgerunner and Yuba Mundo, can carry up to three children and with an additional seat up front, like the Yepp Mini, your littlest one can join the fun. Add-ons like side rails and seat cushions make the ride comfortable for all. Our front loading cargos, Gazelle Cabby and Babboe City, let you communicate easily with your two, three or maybe four kids, and feature rear racks allowing for additional carrying capacity. Don't have kids but need to get a lot of large bulky items around town? We can get you a Larry Vs. Harry Bullitt framekit that lets you decide what components and what kind of container will do the job. We'll do the build too. The possibilities are endless! And if your needs are on a smaller scale we have the Yuba Boda Boda step-through, Soma Pick-Up Artist, and Civia Halsted. Despite their smaller sizing these lil' guys can haul a sh*t ton of gear. Philly streets are flat for the most part so riding a cargo bike (from 7 gears up to 24 depending on the make and model) is a breeze but if hills impede your ride a Bionx electric assist can be added to make your journey a lot smoother. Come to test ride Monday through Fridays 10 to 6, Saturdays 10 to 5. And make sure to check out the 2014 Philadelphia Bike Expo, November 8th and 9th at the Convention Center. We'll be there with some of our cargo bikes and test rides are available at the Expo.
Bullitt Spotting August 05 2014
If you're out and about today look for the shop's big yellow Bullitt. You'll spot Simon chauffeuring photographer Jessica Kourkounis around the city. She'll be Visit Philly's instagrammer for the next few days so be sure to smile for the camera!
Yuba Boda Boda & Mundo Join Our Cargo Bike Corral July 10 2014
Just in to the shop this fun Yuba Boda Boda along with it's bigger pal, the Mundo. The user-friendly compact 8 speed Boda Boda step-thru fits just about any rider from 4'9" to 5'10". The basic model available in lime or white costs just $999 making it an affordable cargo option. It can accommodate add ons like the bag and seat cushion pictured as well as a child seat or hefty front basket. The longer wheel based Mundo starts at $1299. It has 21 speeds and longer rear rack to carry more stuff. With it's sloping top tube it fits riders from 5' to 6'5" and with add ons like a runner board & straps you can securely haul over sized cargo. All accessories for both bikes sold separately.
An Affordable Bike Made in the USA June 10 2014
There's a new bicycle manufacturer in the US called Detroit Bikes hailing from, yes, that's right, Detroit, MI. "The largest frame manufacturing start up the country has seen in generations," says this young company. They make only one bike called the A-Type. It's basic black with a 3-speed internal hub and equipped with fenders, chain guard, and rear rack. It comes in one size only fitting someone "between 5’3″ and 6’3″" and retails for $699. Not bad for a domestically built bike. For the next 30 days we'll have one in the shop available for test rides.
News Flash: Kids Love Cargo Bikes! May 08 2014
Kid tested, kid approved cargo bikes were out and about at Kidstock, a fun free event organized by Fishtown play group By My Side, this past Sunday at Liberty Lands.
We showed up on what started out a chilly grey day with our trusty trio of family bikes: Gazelle Cabby, Babboe City, and Xtracycle Edgerunner. When the spring sunshine finally made an appearance test rides really started to take off. David and Simon gave dozens of rides to dozens of children and even a few parents had a go. We can't tell you how happy we are to talk to parents about these amazing bikes and hear their little ones insist they buy one. If anyone missed the event or didn't get a chance to ride a bike that day we are open Monday through Saturday for test rides.
Ready To Roll April 29 2014
David proudly standing behind a fleet of five cargo bikes destined to Wholefoods stores in the area. The bikes are a mash-up of Torker Graduate Mixties, 20 inch front wheels, and fork/cargo racks from Cyclefab based in Seattle, Washington. The grocery delivery crew are gonna love riding these smooth handlers.
Let Your Bike Carry The Load January 17 2014
While a cargo bike is a great way to lug things around town we do have smaller options that work with just about any bicycle to tote your stuff. Tons of panniers, baskets and bags (and the racks to mount them on) to get the weight off your back and let your bike do the work. Germany's Racktime makes stylish bags that clip into their own front or rear racks for a completely integrated, strong, and secure carrying system. For those who want to make a bold statement, Basil from the Netherlands offers water resistant panniers in bright and colorful florals or simpler color blocks for graphic pop. Here in the USA, Green Guru is recycling old bicycle inner tubes and advertising banners for their panniers. As for front baskets, you'll find the trust worthy Wald basket (still made in America) does the job, Basil makes colorful lift off baskets (we have one in yellow) or for larger gear we've got a market rack from Civia. And that's not all. Come by the shop to see the rest of our collection or call for pricing.

Jingle, Jingle December 05 2013
We have some pretty big bells here at Firth & Wilson. Ring one of these and even a bus will get out of your way. Well, perhaps not a bus but they are loud. If that's too much for you to handle we do have some smaller options that will get you noticed. Prices start at $7 (bells pictured, $16.)
