'Tis The Season: Bicycle Gift Ideas (Part I) December 03 2016
We have lots of bikes that would make great gifts: for your wheelie well behaved teenager how about a greatly sought after SE Big Ripper, or for your city hopping commuter a Brompton folding bike would be perfect, or perhaps the whole family deserves one big Babboe Curve cargo tricycle. But if a new bike isn't in your budget, we have on a smaller scale (and easier on the wallet) these lovely bicycle prints by Brooklyn artist Taliah Lempert. Tahliah is renowned for her bicycle portrait paintings. We have a numerous assortment of her colorful prints that would look good on any wall in your house. They come numbered and matted with prices starting at $25. We also have some magnet sets, temporary tattoos, and note cards that she's adorned. Prices start at $5.00. Come to the shop to see what we have.
If You Can't Stand the Heat... July 28 2016
Dreaming of escaping the sweltering heat of the city to a cool verdant oasis? Hop on your bike and with your friends and family head to the country for a picnic. For us in Philadelphia heading to the nearest expanse of green and quiet isn't far at all. Fairmount Park has over 9000 acres of parkland right within the city limits. You'll easily find a shady grove to settle down and enjoy the sights and gentle sounds of mother nature. In some spots, like Cresheim Valley Creek pictured, you'd never know you were still in a major metropolis.
We have the bikes and gear just right for transporting your picnic fare. Green Guru make bags and panniers out of recycled materials. Try their Carbon Cooler to keep food from spoiling.
A crate on a rear rack is a great solution for hauling beverages. Pure City's wooden crate fits beautifully on the rear rack of a Pure City Bourbon and is perfect for carrying a six pack of your favorite sip.
We Like Big Bikes and We Cannot Lie! May 06 2016
We like these two BIG BIKES so much that we've restocked them. A favorite with the wheelie kids, SE's 2016 Big Ripper has been tearin' up the streets of Philadelphia. It's bright white frame with sharp gold accents and massive 29" Thickslicks make it a much sought after ride. No need to look any further, we got it here. For grownups, the Babboe Big is the bike (or rather, trike) to replace the family car, at least one of them. Little kids love being transported around the city in the big front box where they have the best view. Two benches can carry up to four children. For rainy days there's an optional rain tent. Those two wheels in the front can support a lot of weight and it's super stable. Only one downside, you can't do a wheelie.
Ride Into the Comfort Zone April 29 2016
Cradle your littler ones in comfort and safety with the Babboe Cargo Toddler Seat. Available in silver, blue, or dark grey and specifically designed for Babboe Cargo bikes, the toddler seat shell is made of dense but cushion-y foam that can withstand the impact of a collision should one occur. It also provides neck and back support, super important when sleepy heads nod off. Its easy to install, just make sure to leave some space for the rain tent, but we can always do that for you. And, as a heads up, another Babboe Big Cargo Tricycle and Babboe Big Raintent are on their way!
How to Keep Your Cargo Bike Safe From Marauders January 08 2016
So you've decided to buy a Babboe City or Gazelle Cabby cargo bike but where do you store it? Like many city dwellers you live in a row home or apartment building without a garage or access to a back yard. Your only choice is to park it out front but with the threat of bike theft you don't want to put your new investment at risk. That's why we sell the ABUS Granit Floor Anchor. It mounts securely to the sidewalk with four thick expanding bolts that once properly installed aren't going anywhere and has a hardened steel shackle that's large enough to fit a hefty ABUS chain lock (we have an assortment to choose from) or two smaller locks. You'll need a heavy duty drill to install. Don't have one and you live within a few miles from the shop? For an additional fee we can arrange to install it for you (ask for details.)
Cargo Bikes for Everyone! September 26 2014
With the pleasant Autumn cycling weather upon us, now is a good time to look into getting that cargo bike you've always dreamed about. We carry cargo bikes big, suitable for transporting your kids to school, and small, to haul your groceries and beer home after work. Our long rear loading bikes, we stock the Xtracycle Edgerunner and Yuba Mundo, can carry up to three children and with an additional seat up front, like the Yepp Mini, your littlest one can join the fun. Add-ons like side rails and seat cushions make the ride comfortable for all. Our front loading cargos, Gazelle Cabby and Babboe City, let you communicate easily with your two, three or maybe four kids, and feature rear racks allowing for additional carrying capacity. Don't have kids but need to get a lot of large bulky items around town? We can get you a Larry Vs. Harry Bullitt framekit that lets you decide what components and what kind of container will do the job. We'll do the build too. The possibilities are endless! And if your needs are on a smaller scale we have the Yuba Boda Boda step-through, Soma Pick-Up Artist, and Civia Halsted. Despite their smaller sizing these lil' guys can haul a sh*t ton of gear. Philly streets are flat for the most part so riding a cargo bike (from 7 gears up to 24 depending on the make and model) is a breeze but if hills impede your ride a Bionx electric assist can be added to make your journey a lot smoother. Come to test ride Monday through Fridays 10 to 6, Saturdays 10 to 5. And make sure to check out the 2014 Philadelphia Bike Expo, November 8th and 9th at the Convention Center. We'll be there with some of our cargo bikes and test rides are available at the Expo.
News Flash: Kids Love Cargo Bikes! May 08 2014
Kid tested, kid approved cargo bikes were out and about at Kidstock, a fun free event organized by Fishtown play group By My Side, this past Sunday at Liberty Lands.
We showed up on what started out a chilly grey day with our trusty trio of family bikes: Gazelle Cabby, Babboe City, and Xtracycle Edgerunner. When the spring sunshine finally made an appearance test rides really started to take off. David and Simon gave dozens of rides to dozens of children and even a few parents had a go. We can't tell you how happy we are to talk to parents about these amazing bikes and hear their little ones insist they buy one. If anyone missed the event or didn't get a chance to ride a bike that day we are open Monday through Saturday for test rides.
Philadelphia is Catching Cargo Fever March 18 2014
Spring fever isn't the only fever going around. Cargo fever is spreading as well. Our new stock of Xtracycle Edgerunners arrived this morning after selling out last week. We already have one built and ready to go. And that ain't all. We have more cargo bikes: Xtracycle Cargo Joe, Gazelle Cabby, Babboe City, Haley Trikes, and Bullitt. Come in for some test rides.
